19 Jul Mercury Retrograde
Mercury Retrograde used to evoke the biggest, most furrowed cringey brow upon my face. My communication would start to break down, my car would start to lurch….everything would turn sideways ( sometimes literally) I would look up any celestial events occurring at that time and when Mercury Retrograde articles would pop up I’d think “yikes….this explains everything.” I really delved into learning about Mercury Rx when my family was at an energetic low back in the Summer of 2017. I was deep in shadow work, hibernating when most were out enjoying the Sunshine, I was cocooned and saving the stores of my energy for the healing my inner world was churning out. Harnessing the energy that Mercury Rx holds instead of working against it was something I learned that Summer. To lean into the possibility of each moment and learn instead to release the fear surrounding this celestial happening. My intellectual brain said “it happens 3 to 4 times a year, you’ve got to work with it”. . . and I did. We manifested our Heathen Homestead that Summer, and it will forever bring intense joy when I tell the story of it’s magical happenings. – That will be for another post perhaps. The point of this post is to remind you that you hold immense power and magic within your marrow, bone deep knowing, that you can harness and access, if only you will believe in yourself, and your innate ability to manifest the life you are meant to live.
We are currently in what is known as the Shadow Period…Mercury is slowing down, getting ready for it’s illusory backspin set for May 29th, 2021. You may have already noticed things chugging to a stop. Printers that for some reason won’t connect. Car trouble that has arisen that was fine yesterday. Maybe you feel unheard in communication, or completely misunderstood. These are all symptoms of this celestial occurrence known as Mercury Retrograde, and though they present themselves as walls or blockages, these moments and circumstances are teachers, they are presented so that you can overcome the obstacles and build a greater understanding for yourself, how you navigate trials and less than ideal circumstances. These are necessary lessons, and you will rise to them.
Mercury rules over travel, communication, agreements, contracts, luck, underworld work, shadow self examination. It is during this time that introspection reigns. Take time. Moments to pause throughout the day to visualize, ground and centre your Soul. . Pour intention into everything. Forgive yourself quickly when things go awry and you get triggered and react poorly or lowly – this will happen, let it go. Personally, I am quick to embarrassment, when embarrassed, I am then quick to anger, mostly at myself, and then I get snarly with the people around me. A few minutes a day to check in with myself and re-affirm that I am a Whimsical Heathen Woman who is capable of intensely wild and amazing magic, who gets to go home to a Swoony Heathen Being who loves to make magic with and for and about me, and love on some crazy amazing Little Heathens, is all I need to bring me back to centre and continue being the Divine creature I am meant to be…..sometimes it is hard to reign in the snarling accusatory part of me, but that is again, for another post.
I commute to work, so I take a few minutes each morning (most anyways because sometimes we wake up late because of malfunctioning alarms), while brushing my teeth to visualize a smooth road to work. It is in these moments of reflection and intention that introspection comes easily, and it helps to alleviate the sting when it seems like everything is falling apart.
Mercury sometimes dazzles us with this feeling of being Socially bereft, communicatively useless, mechanically disinclined, and like your luck has forever run it’s course. You aren’t alone. Burn black candles, take baths, cord cut those frayed and loose ends, call all your energy back to you, dig in the dirt, and howl with the Moon.
While Mercury is traveling through the deepest darkest parts of our Souls, remember that everything it is stirring up is meant to teach you something, it is meant to align you, to increase your insights, and unearth your innate truths. Trust in yourself and your abilities. Don’t gloss over these moments. They are important.
Deal with your shit. If you feel your car rattling, take a moment to take it to the mechanics or ask a friend to take a look. The point is to be proactive. Be attentive. Don’t delay just because it’s Mercury Retrograde. It will only add to your discomfort or difficulties. If you’re nervous, visualize the outcome you desire, every single sensory detail. And then do it! The Universe is unfolding in your favour.
